Types of Computers

Nowadays, the rate at which people are using computers and other digital devices continue to rise with every single day. The digital wave has swept the world with such intense magnitude and more and more people are relying on these digital devices for their day to day life. Since the onset of technological advancement, computer experts have continued to invent more and more gadgets.

Over 90% of the world’s population gain access to a digital device and most specifically computers for different purposes. While other will use it for business or political purposes, a majority use it for the social purposes. The number of people using social websites is likely to beat that of people using other internet services. One cannot deny the rate at which computers have helped human lives. Through them, businesses have grown, nations have developed and the health sectors have improved greatly.

Basically, if we are to group computers on the basis of their electrical nature, then we’ll have three major classes; the hybrid, analogue and digital type. Just as their names suggest, these computers operate on fused, analogue and digital signals respectively.

Anyhow, there are other types of computers on the basis or nature of their support. As far as their classification goes, we have supercomputers, main frame computers, mini computers and microcomputers.

The hybrid computers work in such as a way that both analogue and digital features are used to operate the system. Normally, such computers have converters that work alternately to effect their functions. The analogue computers on the other hand usually operate with analogue features i.e. different voltages. In most cases, analogue computers are used in hospitals, fights and research institutions to determine weather. This is made possible by programming logical and arithmetic operations.

The digital types are the most commonly used nowadays. Digital PCs come in an assortment of brands, each varying in size, mode of operation and features entailed. Unlike the analogue type, a digital computer uses digital of 0 or 1 to represent data. Digital computers can be categorized further as general and special purpose computers. That’s why you’ll walk in an IT shop and find all sorts of PCs; small to large.

For instance, a gaming computer also known as a gaming PC is a type of digital computer used for entertainment purposes. A gaming PC has a video card installed in it so that one is able to play as video games.

With the increased demand in computer usage, technicians are constantly working on more comfortable and easily accessible digital devices to meet the demand. Laptops, palm tops and computer notebooks are some of the recent inventions in the digital world. Their light weight make it easier for one to ‘walk’ everywhere with their offices or research projects.

When purchasing for computers, it’s always advisable to set your priorities out right. Know what kind of PC you want and ensure it serves the purpose with which you intend it to. Buy notebooks or laptops if your profession involves moving a lot.
